Episode 3 – April 2020 – The Real Journey of Turney
As part of my 30-day quarantine challenge, I decided to spend day 2 & 3 creating a podcast describing what sparked the creation of Turney’s Journeys and how I got to where I’m at today. I don’t hold anything back in this one and include everything from getting in trouble in high school, to bouncing back and finding what I’m truly passionate about in life. Finding authentic experiences is something I’ve always truly loved, and turns out I have been building relationships based on this foundation for quite some time. Born and raised in Austin, Texas, I have always had a natural love for the live music scene. My good friend Vince Seidl of new electro-funk band Vincent Antone, grew up jamming in a garage near the shores of Lake Travis. For my first ever episode of “Talks with Turney” I interviewed PhD Ethnomusicologist Holly Wissler to learn more about the similarities between Mardi Gras in New Orleans and Carnaval among different regions of Latin America. The discoveries were astounding, Holly truly is a walking encyclopedia of Carnaval music and culture. She even plays a song for us on her Bandurria, so make sure you check it out!
